SUNDAY CHURCH SCHOOL

September 9, 2007 - May 25, 2008

The lessons used in worship each Sunday are the basis for our Sunday Church School curriculum.
Worship, Sunday Church School, music and the liturgical year reinforce each other as our youth are nurtured in the

September 12 and 19  God Creates People (Genesis 2:4b-25)
Genesis 1 tells the "days" of the creation story. Genesis 2 focuses on the creation of human beings and their role in caring for the rest of creation.

September 26 and October 3  Jacob and Esau (Genesis 27:1-40)
Rebekah, like some other women in the Bible, was blessed with children though she had been though barren and past childbearing age. Isaac prayed to God and Rebekah and Isaac’s twins were conceived.

October 10 and 17  Joseph’s Dreams (Genesis 37:1-11)
Jacob (later renamed Israel) had twelve sons, the youngest named Joseph. His brothers, resentful of their father’s favoritism, were angry that he dreamed of being over the others.

October 24 and 31  Pharaoh’s Dreams (Genesis 41:1-36)
Pharaoh was the ruler over Egypt. Joseph served as overseer in the house of Potiphar, one of Pharaoh’s officers. His skills interpreting dreams brought him to the attention of Pharaoh.

November 7 and 14  The Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1-17)
Through Moses, God reminded the ancient Israelites of their liberation from slavery in Egypt, and called on them to obey God, who had made them God’s own people.

January 9 and 16  David Is Anointed (1 Samuel 16)
God sent Samuel to anoint a new king to replace Saul. Jesse’s youngest son, David, became the one picked by God.

January 23 and 30  Solomon’s Dream (1 Kings 3:3-15)
Solomon followed in his father David’s footsteps as king who walked with God and pleased God. In a dream Solomon asks God for wisdom to rule with wisdom and fairness.

February 6 and 13  Elijah and the Widow (1 Kings 17:8-16)
Elijah the prophet encounters a widow who willingly gives him water but resisted his request for bread because she barely had enough for herself. Elijah convinces her that God will provide for her needs.

February 20 and 27  Elisha Heals Naaman (2 Kings 5:1-19)
Naaman had leprosy. The prophet Elisha heard of Naaman’s illness from a young Israelite servant girl. He offered to heal Naaman, who initially resisted.

March 5 and 12  Queen Esther Saves the Jews (Esther 2-8)
Esther used her influence as queen to convince the king to not kill all of the Jews, as ordered by the king’s top official Haman. The king, instead, hanged Haman and gave Esther’s cousin Mordecai Haman’s former position.
